At Urbana City Schools, we know that early literacy is an important foundation for student success. Developing a love of reading before kindergarten helps children build vocabulary, strengthen language skills, spark curiosity, and prepare for the transition to school.
The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program through the Champaign County Library encourages families to make reading part of their daily routine. Even one book a day can make a lasting difference, and rereading favorite books counts!
Families can stop by the Champaign County Library to pick up a registration packet or track their progress online.
By building strong reading habits early, families help children enter kindergarten ready to learn, grow, and succeed. Together, we can build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
